About the brand

Plantd Skincare

Plantd makes natural, plant-based skincare built around clean, purposeful formulas, from a hydrating restorative facial oil to a daily defense cream. The line is designed to feel calm, considered, and consistent from product to product.

With five SKUs launching as one collection, Plantd needed packaging that reinforced that sense of a single, considered system rather than five unrelated boxes sharing a logo.

01 · Challenge

Five SKUs That Needed to Feel Like One System

Plantd's five-product line spans very different formats, a facial oil, a night cream, a day cream, a scrub, and a cleansing balm, each with its own scent, texture, and use case. The packaging needed to feel natural, premium, and consistent with the brand aesthetic across every one of them, so the collection would read as a single, cohesive system rather than five separate products that happened to share a name.

  • A consistent structure across five different product formats
  • A natural, premium feel true to the brand's plant-based positioning
  • Design flexibility for a distinct scent and color per SKU
  • Materials that supported Plantd's environmental positioning

One Structure, One Stock, Five Identities

Knockout built every carton on the same core structure and the same FSC-certified, uncoated paperboard, then let color and product naming carry each SKU's individual identity. The uncoated stock gave every box a natural, tactile feel without relying on foils, spot coatings, or other decorative finishes to signal quality.

  • One consistent carton structure used across all five SKUs
  • FSC-certified, uncoated paperboard for a natural tactile finish
  • Fully recyclable materials throughout, with no added coatings
  • Color and copy differentiated each SKU within one shared system

A Collection That Reads as One System

The finished cartons let every individual SKU feel like part of one complete system, and when the full collection is displayed together, the artwork lines up to form one larger, unified visual. The uncoated, tactile stock adds a natural quality without extra finishes, and the sustainable material choices reinforce Plantd's environmental positioning at every touchpoint.

  • A cohesive five-SKU system, consistent in hand and on shelf
  • Artwork that forms one unified visual when displayed together
  • A natural, tactile finish with no added decorative coatings
  • FSC-certified, recyclable materials across the full line
FAQ

Common questions about this project

Why design one packaging structure across five different products? +

A shared structure across every SKU keeps die, prototyping, and setup costs down, since the core carton engineering only has to be solved once. It also gives a multi-product line a consistent shelf presence, so the collection reads as one considered system rather than several unrelated boxes.

Why choose uncoated paperboard instead of a laminate or coating? +

Uncoated paperboard has a natural, tactile surface straight off the press, giving a premium feel without an added laminate or coating. It also keeps the carton simpler to recycle, since there is no plastic film layer to remove first.

How can packaging make several products feel like one collection? +

Keeping structure, stock, and layout consistent across every SKU, while varying only color and product naming, lets a shopper immediately recognize each item as part of the same family, whether they see one box or the whole line at once.

What does FSC certification mean for skincare packaging? +

FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification verifies that the paperboard is sourced from responsibly managed forests and tracked through the supply chain, giving a natural skincare brand a sourcing claim that matches its product positioning.

How does Knockout design packaging systems for multi-SKU launches? +

Knockout starts with the structure and material choices that need to stay constant across every SKU, then works with the brand on the color and copy variation that gives each product its own identity within that shared system.
