FOR CONTRACT MANUFACTURERS

Every packaging question in the building lands on one desk.

Refer the brand to us, or run us as your own packaging team. Either way, components stop being your problem.

Most contract manufacturers carry packaging with one or two people and very little leverage. The brand picks the components, the parts arrive late, short, or out of spec, and the line, the warehouse, the QA file and the client call all land on your team. Knockout sources and manages primary and secondary packaging for your brand clients across North America, with a named owner and one PO. We do not compete with you, and we do not go around you.

Knockout packaging support for contract manufacturers

Line time

A scheduled run stops when one component is missing, and the hours do not come back.

Floor space

Client-supplied parts sit in your warehouse, uninspected, unbilled, in the way.

Admin load

Five component vendors per program means five POs, five receipts and five sets of chasing.

Your name

The brand does not remember whose part failed. They remember whose run was late.

WHAT WE HEAR FROM CM FLOORS

Packaging does not just cost you components. It costs you five things you cannot invoice.

Formulation and fill is what you sell. Packaging is what interrupts it. Here is where the interruption actually shows up, and what changes when we own that side.

1. Your team

  • One packaging person is the single point of failure for every active program.
  • That person is a buyer, an engineer, a project manager and a customer service desk in the same hour.
  • Vacation, illness or a resignation stalls every open component decision.
  • Technical judgement on closures, liners and decoration is expected but was never hired for.
  • Evenings and weekends spent chasing an overseas supplier for a part the brand chose.

With Knockout

  • A named packaging owner assigned to your account, reachable by name.
  • Component decisions, sourcing and supplier chasing move to our desk.
  • Your packaging person moves from firefighting to approving.
  • Depth on components, decoration and line fit without adding to your payroll.

2. Your organization

  • Idle scheduled line time when one part of a kit does not land with the rest.
  • Changeover economics wrecked by component variance found mid-run.
  • Receiving, counting and incoming inspection on parts you did not buy.
  • Racking and floor space carrying a brand's mis-specced inventory for months.
  • Purchase order fragmentation and the accounts payable load that comes with it.
  • Quality disputes with no clean owner when the failed part was client-supplied.
  • Capacity planning built on component dates nobody controls.

With Knockout

  • Components arrive complete and kitted to the run, not in five partial deliveries.
  • One PO and one invoice for the full packaging scope.
  • Quality gates before parts ship, so defects are caught at the factory, not at your line.
  • Committed dates you can schedule against, with the risks named out loud up front.
  • Clear ownership when something is wrong. It is ours.

3. Your sales team and your process

  • Packaging questions stall quotes that were otherwise ready to send.
  • Business development answering component questions instead of selling capacity.
  • Programs lost to a competitor who could answer the packaging question in the first call.
  • Turn-key promises made in the sales cycle that operations has to absorb later.
  • Scope creep on packaging coordination that never made it into the pricing.
  • Renewal conversations spent explaining a delay caused by a part you did not choose.

With Knockout

  • Your team can answer packaging in the first call, because we sit behind them.
  • Turn-key becomes a real offer with a real cost, not a promise operations pays for.
  • Component pricing and lead times inside your quote window.
  • A packaging story that helps you win the program instead of qualifying you out.

4. Sampling

  • Weeks waiting on a sample while the brand decides whether to proceed at all.
  • A sample that does not represent production, so the standard was never really agreed.
  • Colour, finish and material off enough to trigger another round nobody budgeted for.
  • Samples approved on a bench that behave differently on the line.
  • Multiple suppliers sampling on their own schedule, so nothing arrives together for a real decision.
  • Every extra sample round pushing the production window closer to the retail date.
  • A stalled sample stalling the quote, and a stalled quote stalling the program.

With Knockout

  • The standard is defined before round one, so a sample is a decision and not an opinion.
  • Colour targets, finish and material called out in writing before anything is made.
  • Samples coordinated across suppliers to arrive as one set the brand can actually judge.
  • Pre-production samples run on your line, not just approved on a desk.
  • Sample rounds tracked against the retail date, so you know what a further round costs in days.

5. Your line and the product itself

  • Neck finish and thread mismatch between the bottle and the closure the brand sourced separately.
  • Ovality and out-of-round bottles that will not run through the puck or the capper.
  • Panel rigidity wrong for vacuum or pressure filling.
  • Closure torque outside your application range, so the seal passes on the bench and fails in transit.
  • Liner and induction seal not matched to the formula or the substrate.
  • Label roll direction, unwind orientation and core size that your applicator cannot take.
  • Adhesive that will not hold on the chosen substrate, and shrink sleeves that distort over the shoulder.
  • Tube shoulder and orifice, pump dip tube length and dispensing rate variance found at first fill.
  • Minimum order quantities that do not match an efficient run length.

With Knockout

  • We spec to your line, not to a catalogue. Tell us the equipment and the constraints and we design around them.
  • Bottle, closure, liner and decoration sourced as one matched system from one accountable team.
  • Pre-production samples on your line before a full run is committed.
  • Run length and order quantities planned with your changeover economics in mind.

THE OTHER HALF OF THE COST

You are not just absorbing packaging problems. You are quoting a narrower business than you could be.

Packaging is not your core competency, and it was never supposed to be. The consequence is quieter than a late delivery: your team quotes what it already knows how to source. Everything outside that gets talked down, or declined, or lost to a competitor who said yes.

What it looks like now

Selling what you know

  • The same handful of stock formats offered on every program, because those are the ones your team can spec with confidence.
  • Airless, refillable, mono-material and unusual dispensing steered away from rather than priced.
  • Custom tooling and structural work quoted so cautiously it prices you out.
  • Material and regulatory shifts arriving as a surprise instead of an offer you already had ready.
  • Brands taking the interesting launches elsewhere and leaving you the repeat runs.
  • No time to look at what is new, because the week is spent chasing what is late.

What it looks like with us behind you

Selling what the brand actually wants

  • Say yes to formats your team has never sourced, with a specification and a number behind the yes.
  • Bring options into the first conversation instead of narrowing the brief down to what is easy.
  • Sustainability, refill and decoration questions answered properly, in the sales call.
  • Structural and custom work priced by people who do it every week.
  • Material and format changes reach you as an opportunity, before a brand asks about them.
  • A wider quotable scope without hiring for it or training for it.

Let the brand dream the product. We will tell you what it costs and whether it will run.

THE REAL NUMBER

Carrying packaging yourself is the expensive option. It just never shows up as a packaging cost.

A component invoice is easy to compare. The cost of running components in-house is spread across payroll, floor space, downtime and rework, which is exactly why it never gets counted.

What packaging costs you today

  • Fully loaded salary for a packaging person, whether the volume is there or not
  • Operations and program time absorbed by component chasing
  • Scheduled line hours lost waiting on parts
  • Changeover and rework when a component runs badly
  • Receiving, inspection and storage on parts you did not buy
  • Accounts payable load across multiple component vendors
  • Scrap, replacement freight and expedite fees
  • Programs and renewals lost to packaging friction

What it costs with Knockout

  • One all-in number per program, quoted before you commit
  • Components, sourcing, project management, quality control, coordination, freight, duties and tariffs inside that number
  • No fixed headcount to carry through a slow quarter
  • No line-by-line surcharges appearing after the fact
  • The number does not change unless the scope changes
  • Variable cost that scales with programs, not a fixed cost on your P&L

If you want to run the comparison properly, bring your loaded cost per packaging hour and the downtime rate for the line in question. We will do the math with you on the call and tell you if the answer is no.

HOW WE WORK WITH CMs

Two ways in. You own the client. You decide how we show up.

Every contract manufacturer is built differently. Some sell packaging as part of the service. Some want it gone entirely. Both work.

Turn-key CM

If you offer packaging as part of your service

We work behind you, white-labelled, on your paperwork and in your name where you want it. Your brand client sees one seamless service. You stay the partner of record and you keep the margin you build in. You get a packaging team without building one.

  • Quoted to you, presented as yours
  • We join client calls as your packaging team if that helps
  • You control the client relationship and the pricing

Standard CM

If you focus on formulation and fill

Refer the brand to us directly. We take the packaging conversation, the sourcing, the quality process and the coordination. Your team stops fielding component questions and stays on the work that earns your margin. The brand gets a partner who actually runs their packaging.

  • Direct relationship with the brand, coordinated to your schedule
  • Components delivered kitted and complete to your dock
  • We keep you in the loop, and we never solicit your fill work

Either way, your one packaging person gets their week back.

SCOPE

What moves off your desk.

  • Component specification and line fit review
  • Primary packaging sourcing
  • Secondary packaging and cartons
  • Closures, pumps, liners and seals
  • Labelling and decoration
  • Artwork and dieline management
  • Tooling and mould coordination
  • Sample rounds and colour targets
  • Pre-production samples
  • Format and material options
  • Quality control gates through production
  • Consolidation into one delivery
  • Freight, duties and tariffs
  • Component documentation for your file
  • Replenishment planning
  • One PO, one named owner

Primary and secondary, sourced and managed end to end, manufactured across North America.

LINE FIT

We spec to your line, not to a catalogue.

Most component problems are not quality problems. They are fit problems that nobody checked before the purchase order went out. Send us the equipment and the constraints and we design the package around them.

If a brand has already bought parts that will not run, tell us early. Recovering a program is cheaper than a failed first fill.

Send us a line spec →

What we check before anything is ordered

  • Neck finish, thread and closure torque range
  • Bottle ovality, out-of-round and puck compatibility
  • Panel rigidity for vacuum or pressure filling
  • Liner and induction seal against the formula
  • Label substrate, adhesive, unwind direction and core size
  • Shrink sleeve behaviour over shoulders and recesses
  • Tube shoulder, orifice and dispensing rate
  • Pump dip tube length and fill height
  • Carton fit, insert tolerance and case pack
  • Order quantity against an efficient run length

WORKING TOGETHER

The introduction stays where it started.

When a brand arrives with a consultant or a product development partner already in the mix, we work inside that team. Discreet, comfortable with white-label, and we never go around you or them. We do not fill, we do not formulate, and we do not compete for your work. Packaging is the whole job.

We never

Approach your client for work outside packaging.

We never

Use your program as a reference without your approval.

We always

Tell you what we told the brand.

THE PACKAGING PLAYBOOK

Six steps, run the same way every time.

A repeatable process is what makes packaging schedulable instead of hopeful.

  1. 01

    Discovery

Programs, volumes, line constraints, dates and the risks nobody has said out loud.

  2. 02

    Design

Component and decoration decisions checked against your equipment and the brand's shelf goal.

  3. 03

    Source

Matched components from vetted North American manufacturing, quoted as one number.

  4. 04

    Quality control

Defined standards and gates before production, during production and before it ships.

  5. 05

    Production

Managed to your run date, with status you do not have to ask for twice.

  6. 06

    Delivery

Consolidated, kitted and landed complete at your dock.

PROOF

Referred, repeatedly.

We've worked with Knockout Packaging on various projects over the past year and have been very happy with the results. The team is knowledgeable, quick, and genuinely cares about the final product. We've recommended them to many of our clients and will continue to do so.

QUESTIONS CMs ASK US

Straight answers.

Do you compete with contract manufacturers?

No. We do not formulate and we do not fill. Packaging is the entire business. Your fill work is not something we are ever going after.

Can you work white-label under our name?

Yes. In the turn-key model we quote to you and present as your packaging team, on your paperwork, including joining client calls if that helps. You stay the partner of record.

Who owns the brand relationship?

You do, in both models. If you refer the brand to us directly, we keep you informed and we do not use the introduction to sell anything outside packaging.

What does the packaging scope actually include?

Primary and secondary packaging, closures and dispensing, labelling and decoration, artwork and dieline management, tooling coordination, pre-production samples, quality control gates, consolidation and delivery. One PO and one named owner across all of it.

Can you take over a program that is already going wrong?

Often, yes. If components are already bought and will not run, we look at what can be recovered, what needs replacing and what it costs before anything is committed. Bring it to us early rather than after the first fill.

How do you handle sampling?

We define the standard before the first round, in writing, including colour targets, finish and material. Samples are coordinated across suppliers so they arrive as one set the brand can judge together, and pre-production samples run on your line rather than being approved on a desk. If a further round is needed you will know what it costs in days before you agree to it.

Can you source formats our team has never worked with?

Yes, and this is usually why a CM calls us. Airless, refillable, mono-material, unusual dispensing and custom structural work sit inside our normal scope. You can quote it with a specification and a number behind it instead of steering the brand back to a stock format.

How do you price?

One all-in number per program. It includes components, sourcing, project management, quality control, coordination, freight, duties and tariffs. It does not change unless the scope changes.

Where is production and what are lead times?

We are owned, operated and manufacturing in North America, which is what makes committed dates possible. Typical production runs three to four weeks once the specification is locked, and we give you the risks on a program up front rather than after they land.

What documentation do we get for our file?

We collect and pass through the component documentation your quality file needs, including supplier material and lot details, as part of the program rather than as a separate request.

What order quantities can you support?

We plan order quantities against an efficient run length for your line rather than a supplier's default minimum, and we will tell you when a quantity does not make sense to run.

START A CONVERSATION

Tell us what is on your line this quarter.

Thirty minutes. Bring one program that is causing pain. You will leave with a number, a timeline and the risks named out loud.
